However, Nick later took advantage of Big's trust by selling him a very expensive wool rug secretly made from the fur of a skunk's rear end. Big liked and trusted the fox, welcoming him into his home and even introducing him to his beloved grandmother, whose cannoli they dined on when Mr. Big, a feared arctic shrew crime boss, developing a stable partnership with him. Īt some point during his status as a con artist, Nick fell in with Mr. Though the two were initially rival con-artists, they became best friends and business partners at adulthood. During his teenage years, Nick was sent to juvenile detention, where he met a quick-tempered fennec fox named Finnick. From that moment forward, Nick vowed to never expose his true vulnerability to others, resulting in the fox presenting himself as stoic and unflappable.Īs another result of this experience, Nick declared that if the world viewed foxes as nothing more than vile and untrustworthy scoundrels, he should not only accept it but embrace it, subsequently doing so by becoming a successful con artist. After running outside to escape his tormentors, Nick broke down in tears, developing a triggering fear of muzzles and dislike towards prey and specist mammals. The "initiation" turned out to be a cruel prank and Nick was ridiculed, shoved to the ground and muzzled by the other scouts for being a fox (as foxes are considered among the vilest and most untrustworthy species of mammals in the Zootopia world). Though he was the only predator there, Nick attended his initiation with confidence and zeal, but unknowingly walked into a trap. When he was eight or nine years old, his mother scraped up enough money to buy a brand new scout uniform, allowing him the opportunity to join the division. As a child, Nick had a dream of joining the local Junior Ranger Scouts, for the goal of receiving genuine acceptance. With a plethora of animated films in line for the next two years, it's safe to say fans will just have to wait until Disney ends its silence regarding "Zootopia 2.Nick came from a poor background living with his mother (his father is never seen or mentioned). Keeping to the code of silence, Howard and Moore responded that the world of "Zootopia" has allowed them to discuss things that they don't normally get to talk about in animated films.Īs for the "WildeHopps" tandem being shipped by some of the fans, Moore had this to say: "Do male and female characters always have to get together at the end of every movie? Can't they just stay best friends?" She also wants to see her character switch roles with Nick Wilde.Īs for Jason Bateman, whose character Nick has been inducted into the police service, he said he wants to see the two "kicking ass out there" and "cleaning up the streets." There is also no telling whether the two will develop some sort of romance in the sequel but some feel that their relationship should be strictly platonic.ĭuring an interview at the 2017 Golden Globes, directors Byron Howard and Rich Moore were asked what their plans concerning "Zootopia 2" were. Ginnifer Goodwin who voiced Judy Hopps revealed that she wants the film to be a sort of buddy cop flick. If this is true, most - if not all - of the characters will probably be reprising their role as well. At this point, any detail from anyone associated with the film or Disney is welcome.Īccording to Smith, who got his nickname during his stint with the TV show "Gladiators" in the '90s, it has been confirmed that he will reprise his role in the sequel. Smith aka "Rhino" who voiced Officer McHorn in the film recently divulged some major details about the upcoming sequel. After months of being mum on the subject, actor Mark Smith finally decided to break the silence. It was only a matter of time before "Zootopia 2" was announced after the billion-dollar success of the original film. What Kuleshov was witnessing was the dissolution of a paradigm-which no doubt felt like the melting away of the thing itself. This turned out to be false or, rather, true in a limited sense. Such authority over meaning strikes us as obvious today, but at the time the “photographic” image was held to be a totally faithful, “concrete,” inviolably “true” artifact, free of the shortcomings of subjectivity. What stunned Kuleshov was the incredible flexibility of the medium, and, with that in mind, the power it granted him to provide moving pictures with new contextual meanings. Yet Kuleshov was right to emphasize the power that editing has over motion pictures, even to the point of bending the inner “reality” of shots. How successful would the Mozzhukhin experiment have been had he not appeared “neutral” but enraged, elated, or better yet, jogging in place? These montage composites are limited by plausibility (a woman has lips, legs, a back, and eyes) and the content of the shots themselves (neutral stares versus, say, directed actions, like, ‘appear as if you are frightened’). What Kuleshov actually discovered and what he thought he discovered are not necessarily one and the same. This interplay between montage, perception, and meaning has come to be known as the “Kuleshov Effect.” Kuleshov tended to exaggerate the implications of these constructs: “it was not important how the shots were taken, but how these shots were assembled.” Alfred Hitchcock, decades apart and worlds away, called it “pure cinema,” when the montage gives rise to meanings that exist nowhere to the eye, but only in the mind. He writes, “By montage alone we were able to depict the girl, just as in nature, because we shot the lips of one woman, the legs of another, the back of a third, and the eyes of a fourth.” It was “a totally new person.” And even though she was a composite, according to Kuleshov, she retained “the complete reality of the material.” In Art of the Cinema, Kuleshov’s first book, he tells of several other tests, including the creation of a single woman from a hodgepodge of different women. It’s only a slight exaggeration to say that the Soviet silent era, its “golden era,” was the flowering of a shared fascination with Kuleshov’s discovery. Soviet greats of the silent era, such as Vsevelod Pudovkin, Aleksandr Dovzhenko, Dziga Vertov, and Sergei M. “The discovery stunned me,” Kuleshov wrote, “so convinced was I of the enormous power of montage.” The Power of MontageĪnd his amazement was catching. When staring at the soup, Mozzhukhin was hungry at the young woman, lustful at the child, mournful. When he showed the segments to audiences and polled their reactions, they swore that Mozzhukhin’s expression had changed from piece to piece. Then he intercut each practically-identical segment with three other shots-a bowl of steaming soup, an attractive young woman, and a child lying dead in a coffin. Taking an expressionless long shot of the actor Ivan Mozzhukhin peering into the camera-presumably, because footage of the original experiment has been lost- he broke it into three parts. The hypothesis: the dramatic effect of a film was found not in the content of its shots but rather in the edits that join them together. West in the Land of the Bolsheviks (1924), political partisan, teacher-ventured a hypothesis. It was in 1918 that Lev Kuleshov-film theorist, father of the Soviet Montage school of cinema, director of The Extraordinary Adventures of Mr. RAM can go up as high as 16GB while storage is up to 1TB SSD. The Bulls would go on to defeat the Utah Jazz in six games in the NBA Finals, winning their fifth championship in seven years. The Heat managed to defeat the Knicks in seven games, but would lose in five games to the defending champion Chicago Bulls in the Eastern Conference finals. Game 5 of that series featured a brawl, which involved Brown throwing Knicks guard Charlie Ward off the court, and with several Knicks players coming off the bench during the altercation, receiving automatic one-game suspensions while Brown was suspended for two games. In the Eastern Conference Semi-finals, they faced the New York Knicks, who took a 3–1 series lead over the Heat. In the Eastern Conference First Round of the playoffs, the Heat won their first ever playoff series by defeating their in-state rivals, the Orlando Magic in five games. Austin was honored with the NBA Most Improved Player of the Year Award, while Lenard finished in fourth place in Most Improved Player voting. Off the bench, Austin, who played as backup center, averaged 9.7 points and 5.8 rebounds per game, and Keith Askins contributed 4.9 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. Majerle contributed 10.8 points per game, while Brown provided the team with 9.5 points and 8.4 rebounds per game, and was named to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team. In addition, second-year guard Voshon Lenard showed improvement becoming the team's starting shooting guard midway through the season, averaging 12.3 points per game, as Majerle only played just 36 games due to a back injury. On the defensive side, Mourning and Brown both provided leadership, while on the offensive side, Mashburn gave the team a spark. Hardaway was named to the All-NBA First Team, and finished in fourth place in Most Valuable Player voting behind Karl Malone, Michael Jordan and Grant Hill. Hardaway and Mourning were both selected for the 1997 NBA All-Star Game, although Mourning did not play due to a foot injury, where he missed 16 games this season. Tim Hardaway had a career season with the Heat as he led the team with 20.3 points, 8.6 assists and 1.9 steals per game, while Alonzo Mourning averaged 19.8 points, 9.9 rebounds and 2.9 blocks per game. The Heat had the best team defensive rating in the NBA. Head coach Pat Riley was named Coach of the Year for the third time. The team also posted the league's best road record at 32–9, while posting a 29–12 record at home. Īfter a 5–4 start to the season, the Heat went on a nine-game winning streak, then won eleven straight games between January and February, held a 36–12 record at the All-Star break, and won eight straight in March, as they won their first Division title with a record of 61 wins and 21 losses, which stood as the franchise mark until the 2012–13 season. At midseason, the team traded second-year guard Sasha Danilovic, and second-year forward Kurt Thomas to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Jamal Mashburn. The team also signed All-Star forward Juwan Howard to a 7-year $100 million contract, but was voided by the league claiming that Miami exceeded their salary cap Howard then quickly re-signed with the Washington Bullets. During the off-season, the Heat signed free agents, All-Star guard and three-point specialist Dan Majerle, P.J. In the summer, packs are smaller because their diets are more diverse. Most wolves live in packs with an average of 2-12 members (with an average of 6), though there can be more if prey is available (up to 36 was found in Alaska). Though their role in ancient times was as a mesopredator, they have become an apex predator in ecosystems today. Their social nature and ways of communicating have allowed for a worldwide range, as well as the ability to take down larger prey. Wolves would probably not have become so widespread had they not adapted to living in packs. Gray wolves have adopted more secretive and nocturnal activity patterns in parts of Europe were they coexist with people. Activity and Behavior Activity PatternĬlassified as arrhythmic, meaning they lack a particular time of period when they are most active they have no normal activity pattern. They are adapted to a feast-or-famine diet and cache food. They are also scavengers, and carcasses are known attractants for them. Fish, birds, berries, & carrion are consumed seasonally, depending on location. Smaller mammals such as voles, beaver, and hares supplement their diet. More than 60% of their prey are young, weak, or older animals. Prey: Generalists, hunting mostly large hoofed animals such as moose, elk, deer, sheep, goats, caribou, musk oxen & bison. Cats rarely reach the density and distribution that wolves can, however. Besides humans and the wolf, the only other animals that regularly prey on large mammals in the Northern Hemisphere are cats (mountain lions in North American and tigers and leopards in Asia). Will also eat small mammals, birds, invertebrates, fish where available, & vegetation (mostly grass) Ecological WebĮcological Role: The wolf's niche is that of the northern predator upon large mammals. Omnivorous, mostly large hoofed mammals such as elk, bison, deer and moose. Dispersing wolves who are leaving their pack can travel as far as 600 miles. They can travel as much as 40 miles a day while hunting and often use semi-regular routes ('runways') through their territory. They are habitat generalists, so one home range include many different types of landscapes. Packs in highly productive environments, such as Yellowstone, have territories of about 100-200 square miles, while wolves living in the Arctic and dependent on caribou may use areas of 20,000 square miles or more. Densities can vary from about 1 wolf/7.5 square miles to 1/75 square miles. Packs generally have territories that range from 50-200 square miles. Ecology HabitatĪdapted to forests, taiga, tundra, deserts, plains, & mountains Distribution Their hearing and sense of smell are very keen, allowing for an incredible awareness of their surroundings. Their paws and claws provide traction and can spread to allow for better support in snow. Their long legs and posture allow for flexibility in their movements they can travel great distances with ease and can sprint relatively short distances. Their thick fur (they shed their winter coats as the weather warms) provides insulation with long guard hairs to keep moisture away from their skin. Gray wolves are the most mobile canid species. Species Specificsįormerly the world's most widely distributed mammal. Large, rounded ears usually held erect, and long legs with large paws. Muzzle is usually lighter in color, longer, shaggier hair around the neck and shoulders form a mane. In North America, wolves are often a mix of browns, tans, and gray. There are up to 32 subspecies of gray wolf with variation in color from white through cinnamon, gray, and black. So I worked in the color separations department for about a year and then I was promoted to the Hi Brow department for about a year and then I got married and went to Europe and came back and worked American greetings again for about two months and then I decided to Cleveland and went to New York to try to make it big in New York. Like in Chicago, Milwaukee, or Detroit or Denver or a lot of other towns, I can get a lot of attention from people who appreciate artists. Like you can get right down to basics here or something. In other ways I really like Cleveland, ya know? It’s like the lowest common denominator or something. Of all the big cities I’ve been in, Cleveland’s about the deadest or something.
